Manuèle Bernardi describes herself as a gleaner.
Her work brings to light plants that we all know, but most of us no longer observe.
Slowing down, observing and contemplating allow her to forge links with her environment. This communion with the living helps her to compose a palette of elements that she stages, seeking to retranscribe the sensations perceived on her walks through the countryside of her beloved Provence. She uses plants as a medium to express her emotions.
She uses nylon thread for its transparency, rendering invisible the balance of her fragile-looking assemblages. This visual lightness, which a mere breath could disperse, is there to underline the impermanence of life.
